Buying Guide

Let's get into the specifics, shall we? We'll take a look at the deck, wheels, trucks, and bearings of a longboard. And we'll go over the specifics of things to look for when purchasing a dancing board. I'll also propose several longboard brands for you to check out. Ready? We should get started right away.

Size of the deck – bigger is better

Bigger is better when it comes to longboarding and choosing a deck for your longboard. In order to accomplish stunts and dancing moves, you'll need a larger deck. You should aim for a dancer longboard deck with a length of 42 to 50 inches and a width of at least 9. You'll have plenty of room to move around and have fun.

There is a lot of room on the dance floor because it is constructed that way. Let me give you an illustration of what I mean. Here's an example of what I mean: There are three boards visible. It's the Loaded Bhangra, a longboard specifically designed for bhangra dance. Besides the Loaded Dervish and Landyachtz Switch, there are two other amazing boards that aren't actually meant for dancing. Look at all that Bhangra occupies! The answer to your question is yes. The two other decks, Dervish and Switch, are both 42 inches wide, but they don't even come close to Bhangra's performance capabilities.

Shape of the deck

Now that we've discussed the deck's size, how about its shape? If you want to be able to perform tricks, the board should be shaped so that you have enough of room. There are a few things I'd like you to keep in mind. To begin with, consider the shape of the platform between the trucks. As a rule, it should be symmetrical, if not exactly. In order to have a good time when dancing, you should steer clear of decks with cutouts or odd forms. Secondly, twin kick tails on the deck are a must (kick tail on both ends of the board). In order to do instructions, you'll need to have them.

Not to be forgotten: a top mount, not a drop through, is the best option. Dropped decks are difficult to dance on because of their differing heights. It restricts the area in which you can dance. See the images below for a comparison of two boards. You can see a deck with wheel cuts and kick tails in the first shot. In spite of its versatility, this board was not designed to be used for dancing and you'd have a difficult time doing so.

The second image depicts a dancer board, which has plenty of room for movement, as well as double kick tails and a top mount for mounting your board. It's best to aim for a deck like this.

Concave

Choose a deck with the least amount of concave or none at all when it comes to the deck's surface. You won't have to worry about tripping over the concave when doing cross steps or other dance manoeuvres. Flat, radial, elliptical, and W concaves are all common on longboarding boards (pardon for my lack of drawing skills). Which one is the simplest to move about on while dancing? The flat one, of course. Perfect for getting your groove on. Other concaves, such as radial for sliding and W for downhill, are made for certain longboarding styles. The flat or mildly concaved deck is your best bet.

Material it is made of and flex

As if choosing the right material for your dancing decks wasn't difficult enough, here's still another one: durability. Maple, bamboo, fibreglass, carbon fibre, and even plastic are some of the materials used to build a skateboard's deck.

Neither a rigid nor a flexible board is ideal for dancing; instead, you want something in the middle. Bamboo, bamboo blended with fibreglass, or maple mixed with fibreglass are all excellent options in my opinion. It's easy to see why I prefer dancers to use bamboo because it's lighter and more stable than other materials, especially when combined with fibreglass.

The type of bamboo used to construct the deck is an important consideration. Always keep in mind that the ideal length for your board is 45 to 48 inches. It's a significant difference when transporting a 48-inch bamboo deck vs. 48-inch maple deck. However, if you're going to go with maple, make sure that the ply count is somewhere between 7-8 and 9-10 rather than 9.

You want a board that has just the right amount of flex, but not too much. You'll be alright if you follow the manufacturer's instructions based on your weight. Loaded Bhangra, for example, has two flex categories. You choose one of them based on your weight, depending on your preference. It is recommended to use Flex 1 for riders who weigh between 150 and 170 pounds. Go for flex 2 at your own risk if you're a 260-pound male athlete. You may even break the board if it's too pliable. Just follow the manufacturer's specifications and don't overthink it when it comes to flex, as I already stated.

Wheels for longboard dancing

Why don't we have a look at wheels? Let's get one thing out of the way right away. A good dance floor is more crucial than any other portion of the skateboard, including the wheels and the rest of the components. However, it's still necessary to pay attention to what's going on. In addition, some of the wheels will be better suited to dance than the others. Here we go: Let's see what you can do with this longboard. A lot of the time, you'll be getting on and off the longboard. You'll execute a trick, stop the board and so on. If you're going to ride a motorcycle, you're going to have to slow down and speed up a lot. So, you'll need a set of wheels that can accomplish this goal.

Wheels with a lower diameter are required for dancing. An inch or so from the top of the barrel. You will be able to accelerate the wheel more quickly as a result of this modification. There are other things to check, such as ensuring that the wheel's lip is round and not square. You don't need square-edged wheels like you would for downhill because you'll be doing tricks and freeride slides. For dancing, I wouldn't use wheels that were too soft or too firm. The ideal range would be between 78 and 86 a.
